About Janet

Janet grew up in Kerman, California and attended Kerman schools. She lived with her Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Grandfather, sister and brother. Janet's grandparents immigrated to the United States from Italy through Ellis Island and made their home in Kerman. Her grandparents worked hard to secure a good life for their family. They farmed almonds, grapes, walnuts, cotton and alfalfa. Janet's grandfather was also the owner-operator of Kerman Tallow Works which is today known as Baker Commodities. Her grandparents also owned extensive real estate in Fresno and Kerman. Her grandfather accomplished all this barely being able to speak English and with a third grade education.

This work ethic, trustworthiness and honesty are instilled in all their children and grandchildren. When Janet graduated high school, she moved to Fresno and secured a job with Safeco Title Insurance delivering documents. She worked her way up to Escrow Officer and Branch Manager.

Janet married James Torosian November 7, 1981, and she left her position to open a Video Sales and Rental store in Kerman as the video industry was just emerging and they were ready to try something new. In 1983, they had twin boys and the flexibility of owning their own successful business lent to focusing on raising their children.

When the boys stated school, Janet decided to go back to school herself and become a school counselor. Over the next few years, she obtained a BA, MA in Counseling and Student Services, a Pupil Personnel Services credential and eventually her School Administrator Credential. She worked in Fowler, California as a school counselor for the district for eight years, and then moved to the high school for seven years where she was a counselor and Learning Director/Activities Director. Janet wrote multiple grants for the district and also was in charge of the Career Technical Education program where she was honored with the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, William F. Noli award for outstanding service in Career Technical Education. She was also honored from Fowler Unified and Fresno County Superintendent of Schools for Administrator of the Year. She left Fowler to be an Assistant Principal at the middle school with Selma Unified. She remained in Selma for three years and then accepted a position with Fresno Unified as a Manager II with the Career Technical Education department.

As life always does, Janet was thrown a curve and had to retire from education to take care of her mother. Once things settled down and Janet had her mother's affairs in order, she was offered a part-time position with the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools, teacher mentor program. Janet mentors new teachers in the Career Technical Education field.

Janet has always been involved in real estate-a field she loves and finds fascinating. Janet and her husband have had a private loan business for over 35 years and have bought and sold many properties. Janet's love of the real estate profession, lead her to recently obtain her real estate license and begin her career with Realty Concepts. She is excited for what the future holds in this new endeavor and she looks forward to working with the dedicated team of agents at RC.
